Why did you leave Wall Street to work as an Independent Wealth Advisor?

I grew up in a suburb of New York City where most people are far too busy to even say “Hello.” I thought that the fast pace, traffic-riddled roads, and abrupt nature of people was the norm.

After working on Wall Street for almost a decade, surrounded by excess and greed, I found myself questioning the established system. Professionally, I felt stymied by policies and sales targets. I wanted the freedom to focus on my clients in a more personalized and aligned manner.

Being a part of the Mollot & Hardy team allows me to be an unbiased advocate for my clients. As an independent wealth advisor, I’m a fiduciary which means I always put their interests above all else.

Ultimately, I made the switch because acting as a fiduciary aligns with my beliefs: I care too much about my clients to be beholden to bottom lines for financial institutions. My focus is on helping those I work with achieve their goals.

What brought you to the Wasatch?

After visiting Salt Lake City in 2017, my wife and I decided to sell our home and move west to establish the Salt Lake City branch of Mollot & Hardy.

The wilderness called us, and its voice was louder than that of Wall Street. I can now be the outdoor enthusiast I’ve always wanted to be, as well as work with clients who share my values and my passions. Five years ago, I would never have imagined that I’d be living in Salt Lake City surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains.

My love of the outdoors is one of the reasons why I personally invest, and suggest my clients invest, in accordance with our most deeply-held values. Personal Values Investing (as it is called) means that while my money is growing for me, it’s also invested in a way that is socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. It allows me and my clients to do well financially while staying true to our values with sustainable retirement planning.

Who do you help, and what do you do for them?

I specialize in working with professionals, entrepreneurs, widows/widowers, and active families.

I follow the mantra of “Design, Build, Protect,” where plans are centered around client values and expectations. The investment strategy I employ is based on academic research and designed to provide the highest probability of achieving my clients’ goals while mitigating risk. In life, the unexpected will always occur, but I help my clients navigate life’s ups and downs, so we can protect their assets and keep building towards the future.

I consider my clients to be a part of my extended family and look after them as I would my actual family. Our partnership is based on trust, and I pride myself on being a genuine resource in an industry that all too often does not serve investors well.

What are some of your other passions?

I enjoy skiing and camping which is a big part of why I believe so strongly in protecting our environment. As an Eagle Scout I learned to leave no trace, and to this day I continue to live that mantra.

The sport of Weightlifting is a big hobby of mine. I competed in the 2018 USA-Weightlifting Nationals with my wife as my competition coach. We also previously owned two CrossFit gyms. When we aren’t training for an upcoming meet, we like to travel to learn about other countries and cultures.

Finally, I am extremely passionate about giving back and helping others. As a both a Rotarian and a Schools to End Poverty board member, I have traveled to Vietnam to oversee projects focused on educating and caring for children. I also serve a board member for the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce because I want to support my community .

What’s your favorite quote about investing?

Warren Buffet once said, “The only value of stock forecasters is to make fortune tellers look good.”

While no one can predict the future, we can prepare for it.

A well-constructed plan and disciplined investment approach will make the road ahead much smoother and life more enjoyable. And the research proves this.
